ARCHIVIST (CONTRACT) - REVISED
Role description: The duties of the Archivist are to maintain the physical and digital collections, digitize archival materials (utilizing basic scanning equipment and image editing software), collaborate with curators and social media manager, direct volunteers in the proper handling and description of collection materials, and other duties as required.
The Venice Heritage Museum currently holds over 3,000 photographic images, 500 items of ephemera and a growing collection of museum objects documenting the history of Venice, California from its founding in 1905 to the present. Our goal is to preserve and provide accessibility to all current collection materials, as well as future accessions.
Term (Part-time): $5,000 for 1-year contract (October 2023-September 2024), est. 4 hours/week, with possibility to renew
Location: On-site in Venice, California

The Venice Heritage Foundation is thrilled to launch the first-ever hub celebrating the diverse cultural heritage and history of the internationally renowned city of Venice, California!
After building a groundswell of support over the last few years thanks to the support of countless passionate community members, partner organizations and allies, and our devoted Board of Directors, we are now poised to launch this much-anticipated institution.
Opening in late 2023, the Venice Heritage Museum will be a space for discovery. In the face of constant change, VHM will be an inclusive hub to celebrate the diverse cultures and unique facets of Venice history. Venice’s accepting and progressive legacy will be on display, with exhibits highlighting both well-known and more obscure stories, showcasing their relevance in today’s world.
Ultimately, the Venice Heritage Museum will serve to enrich the lives of current and future generations through exhibitions, events, and educational activities, connecting the present with the past.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ALA-accredited graduate degree in library and information science, archival studies, or accredited international equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of archival experience.
- Knowledge of archival theories and practices, including experience accessioning, processing, and preserving manuscript/archival records.
- Knowledge of relevant standards for archival description including DACS and EAD.
- Knowledge of basic preservation standards for archival collections.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working with archival content management systems such as Archivist’s Toolkit and ArchivesSpace.
- Experience with archival digitization.
